Dealers must perform this campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail delivery and
whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair.
When a vehicle arrives at the service department, access Hyundai Motor America's "warranty
vehicle information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open campaigns.
Description: On certain 2018MY Elantra GT (PD) vehicles, the tailgate outside handle may exhibit
cracking. Follow the procedure outlined in this bulletin to replace the tailgate outside handle.

TAILGATE OUTSIDE HANDLE REPLACEMENT (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T3K)
Service Procedure:
1. Open the tailgate (A).
2. Release the luggage covering shelf cables (B)
from the hanger and set the luggage cover aside.
3. To remove the tailgate frame trim panels, start by
removing the tailgate frame upper trim (C) by
gently pulling the trim to disengage the trim clips.
NOTICE
Replace any damaged clips during
disassembly with new ones.

4. To remove the driver and passenger tailgate
frame side trim (D), follow the below procedure.
5. Using a trim tool or by hand, separate the driver
side tailgate frame side trim (D).

6. Gently push the driver side tailgate frame side
trim (D) towards the glass and remove it.
Passenger side trim removal procedure is the
same as driver side.
NOTICE
Replace any damaged clips during
disassembly with new ones.
7. Loosen the tailgate frame lower trim mounting
screws (E).

8. Pull the tailgate frame lower trim (G) while
supporting the tailgate (F).
9. Remove the tailgate frame lower trim (G).
NOTICE
Replace any damaged clips during
disassembly with new ones.
10. Disconnect the tailgate outside handle
connector (H).

11. Remove the tailgate latch mounting bolts (I).
Tightening torque: 6.8 ~10.7 Nm (0.7 ~ 1.1
kgf.m, 5.0 ~ 7.9 lb-ft)
12. Remove the latch assembly (J) from the tailgate
frame and set aside.
13. Remove the tailgate outside handle mounting
nuts (K).
Tightening torque: 6.8 ~10.7 Nm (0.7 ~ 1.1
kgf.m, 5.0 ~ 7.9 lb-ft)

14. To unlock the tailgate outside handle mounting
clips, push the lock on the outside handle
mounting clips (L) using a flat screwdriver.
15. Remove the tailgate outside handle assembly
(M) and install the replacement tailgate outside
handle assembly in the reverse order of
removal.
Operate the tailgate by opening and closing a
few times to ensure proper operation. Ensure
proper operation of the backup camera if
applicable.
Service procedure is now complete.
