SUBJECT:
PANORAMA SUNROOF CREAK OR RATTLE NOISE
This bulletin provides the procedure to apply felt tape on the panorama sunroof crossmember
on some 2012-2015MY Optima (QF) vehicles, equipped with panorama sunroof, produced
from August 31, 2011 through September 22, 2015, which may experience a slight creaking or
rattle noise at the sunroof area. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to apply felt tape on the
sunroof crossmember assembly and crossmember mounts.

PANORAMA SUNROOF CREAK OR RATTLE NOISE
Repair Procedure:
1. Carefully lower the roof trim (headliner)
(A) approximately twelve (12) inches by
referring to the “Body (Interior and
Exterior) → Interior → Roof Trim →
Repair procedures” chapter in the
applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.
 NOTICE
Complete removal of the roof
trim is not necessary.
2.
Loosen and remove the ten (10)
crossmember retaining bolts and then
remove the sunroof crossmember
assembly (B).
 NOTICE
Be careful not to damage the
roof trim and interior when
removing
the
sunroof
crossmember.
3.
With the sunroof crossmember placed on
a flat surface, facing down, apply felt
tape to the highlighted areas.
Note: The highlighted areas are the
placement locations of the retaining
bolts. The felt tape must be placed at
contact area between the crossmember
and roof.

4.
Carefully poke a small opening through
the felt tapes at the crossmember for
ease of retaining bolts installation.
5.
Apply felt tape at the four (4)
crossmember mount locations and
carefully poke a small opening through
the felt tapes, as shown (C) for ease of
retaining bolts installation.
6.
Apply LOCTITE® 242 or equivalent
medium strength threadlocker to the
crossmember
retaining
bolts
and
immediately reinstall the felt-applied
crossmember. Reinstall all removed
components in the reverse order of
removal.
7.
Verify proper operation of the sunroof
and ensure sunroof creak or rattle noise
is no longer experienced.
