2. If, for example the left, right, or lower
cover of the timing chains has been
removed and resealed, an excessive
application of sealant could block the
oil pump strainers number 1 through 8
of the oil pump (Figure 2). This causes
a leak at the rear crankshaft seal
number 2 (Figure 1), due to an
increased oil level in the lower timing
cover when the engine is switched off.

3. In this case, remove the oil pump and check the oil strainers for a blockage.
4. Replace all oil strainers and clean engine of all residual oil and recheck for oil leaks after starting and driving
vehicle to normal operating temperature.
5. If no leaks are reproduced, then vehicle can be released. The rear crankshaft seal does not need to be
replaced.
