Introduction Some 2009 – 2012 model year RAV4 and 2010 – 2011 model year Camry vehicles equipped with 2AR-FE (non-PZEV) engines may exhibit a MIL ON condition with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0138 (Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage [Bank 1 Sensor 2]). This condition may be caused by incorrect air fuel ratio sensor response. The Engine Control Module/ECM (SAE Term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM) logic has been modified to reduce the possibility of this condition occurring. Check the vehicle for exhaust leaks. Does the vehicle exhibit ANY exhaust leaks? YES — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual. NO — Continue to step 2. 2. Using Techstream, check for the following stored DTC: P0138 – Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage Is DTC P0138 present? YES — Continue to step 3. NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual. 3. Complete the inspection procedure for DTC P0138. A. Connect Techstream to the DLC3. B. C. D. E. Start the engine. Turn the Techstream ON. Warm up the engine at an engine speed of 2500 rpm for approximately 90 seconds. Enter the following menus: Powertrain – Engine and ECT – Active Test – Control the Injection Volume for A/F sensor. F. Perform the Active Test operation with the engine idling. (Press the Right or Left button to change the fuel injection volume.) G. Monitor the output voltage of the HO2 sensor (O2S B1S2) displayed on the Techstream. 4. Compare the monitored voltages to the values below. Table 1. Prepare and install the Authorized Modifications Label. A. Using a permanent marker, enter the following information on the label: ECM (PCM) part number [Refer to the Parts Information section for the NEW PART NUMBER] Calibration ID(s) [Refer to the Calibration Information section for the NEW CALIBRATION ID] Dealer Code Repair Date Change Authority [This bulletin number] B. Affix the Authorized Modifications Label to the vehicle at the location shown in Figures 1 and 2. The Authorized Modifications Label is available through the MDC, P/N 00451-00001-LBL. 8. Replace the A/F sensor. Using Techstream, clear ALL DTCs. 10. Test-drive the vehicle to confirm the repair and verify no DTCs are present.
