DESCRIPTION:
* If error message “Steering Assistance Temporarily Reduced” is displayed in the driver information
module (DIM) while cranking and DTC PSCM-U30031C is stored, follow advice under Service section
below.
The condition could occur during start/stop activations. After cranking the steering assistance become
normal and the error message disappears.
* The DTC is caused by one of the internal switches in the battery control switch module (BCSM) is in
the wrong position when cranking and it could result in symptom similar to poor main battery state of
charge (SOC).
* A new signal database in the central electronic module (CEM) has been introduced in the production
from 2018 week 46 which will resolve this symptom.
SERVICE:
* Upgrade the vehicle with Total Upgrade software, which includes the latest signal database for CEM.
* Important to know, it is also required to reset of the BCSM by disconnecting the S connector on the
BCSM (4/153) for 15 minutes and then reconnect it, see picture.
* Note: There is no need to replace the BCSM, steering gear or any other components.
