Tech Tips TT 24-13-05 Date: September 27, 2013 2012 Routan (Vehicles built before 5/17/2012) Squeaking Noise Coming from the Engine at Idle The customer may hear a squeaking noise at idle. This may be caused by the PCV valve. The valve is mounted to the right rear cylinder head (Exhaust Camshaft). The rear of the Camshaft boss (FIG 1-1), rides on the inside diameter of the PCV valve seal (FIG 1-2). There is a centering boss internal to the valve, that may be causing the “squeaking” noise as it comes in contact with the boss. Diagnosis: 1. Bring engine up to operating temperature by idling, with the transmission in park. 2. Use the chassis ear to isolate the source of the squeak. 3. Did the Chassis Ears determine that the “Squeak” is coming from the right rear valve cover? a. Yes >>> Perform repair procedure. b. No >>> Further diagnostics necessary to isolate where the noise may be coming from. © 2013 Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. Page 1 of 2 ver1.2 All rights reserved.
