Tech Tips Date: October 5, 2012 TT 90-12-06 1998-2005 Passat – Fuel Gauge Inoperative after Instrument Cluster Replacement with Fault 00771 “Fuel level sensor -G-” An inoperative fuel gauge after instrument cluster replacement with fault 00771 “Fuel level sensor -G-” may be caused by gateway (address word 19) coding. To resolve concern, use Vehicle self-diagnosis to code gateway to the same value already stored (coding value is usually 6). After changing coding, cycle key and re-evaluate fuel gauge operation.
