Cause Correction This condition may be caused by driving the vehicle in short intervals, allowing excessive fuel to collect in the crankcase. Important: This service procedure is for vehicles that have fuel enriched engine oil due to frequent short trip operation. Replacing fuel components such as the high pressure fuel pump or fuel injectors will not correct the setting of P0172 under the operating conditions described unless those components can be verified as causing a fuel rich condition. If fuel in the engine oil has been confirmed to be caused by frequent short trip operation, refer to the Service Procedure below. Service Procedure Important: Perform all of the procedures below that apply to the model year of the vehicle being worked on. For 2016-2018 Model Years: Note: Stable battery voltage is critical during programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt programming. GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. WE SUPPORT VOLUNTARY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION
