Title
Volvo Active Driver Assist (VADA) Communication Fault In The Driver Information
Display (DID) At Start Up; "Missing Communication From VADA ECU" Message In
Cluster ( MID 140 PSID 211 FMI 9 ) - US17+OBD16 and Newer Emissions
Cause
Certain vehicles may exhibit a pop up message for a VADA communication fault. This
message occurs when the Instrument Cluster ( IC ) starts up (within 30 seconds after
ignition starts) and cannot communicate with the VADA ECU. The IC watchdog timer
is set to begin at 20 seconds; however the VADA ECU does not start up until 30
seconds. So the IC timer has been extended to 35 seconds. Psid 211 fmi 9 will also
show when this occurs, Fault will go inactive after message clears.
Solution
For any vehicle displaying the above symtpoms:
Update the Instrument Cluster software.
