SERVICE ACTION: CHECK THE TANK VENT VALVE LINE
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the
next time the vehicle is in the shop.
MODEL
G01 (X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i)
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves X3 xDrive30i and X3 M40i vehicles produced from July 13, 2017 to May 5, 2018.
Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR,
the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader.
SITUATION
In certain conditions, the engine wiring harness may come in contact with the tank vent value line. Due to
vibrations and oscillations, the corrugated tubing of the engine wiring harness could wear through the tank vent
valve line.
CAUSE
Unfavorable clearance between the engine wiring harness and tank vent valve line.
CORRECTION
Install a spacer or replace the damaged tank vent valve
PROCEDURE
Remove the acoustic cover as described in Repair instructions REP 11 12 070
Visually inspect engine wiring harness and tank vent valve line.
If the clearance between the tank vent valve and engine harness is
incorrect and the tank vent valve line is damaged, it must be
replaced.
Installation of a spacer is not needed in this case as the

replacement tank vent valve line will have the spacer installed.
If the clearance between the tank vent valve and engine harness is
correct and the tank vent valve line is not damaged, install an
additional spacer.
Install the new spacer after the bend between the first and second
existing spacer on the tank vent valve (TEV).
The installation location of the new spacer is shown circled in red.
The new spacer (2) should be located approximately 5” (127mm)
away from the existing spacer (1) and next to the bend of the on
the tank vent valve line (3).
