If there are no diagnostic codes present that would a ect propulsion, then this document may apply to their situation. Please ask the customer for an accurate description of the scenario under which the message occurs and how many times it has happened on the vehicle. This may be caused by a controls issue with normal wear of the high voltage battery. It does not indicate that the there is a problem with the battery itself. Note: For 2013 please look at Bulletin 19-NA-079 Correction: There are some cases where this is considered normal. For example, any Volt, Ampera, or ELR climbing a steep grade at interstate speeds without proper use of Mountain Mode will encounter this same message without DTCs. If this is the case, refer the customer to proper use of Mountain Mode in the owner’s manual. Also, extreme outside temperatures, especially in winter, may cause the message to appear until the battery temperature has stabilized. If a Propulsion Power is reduced message occurs during regular operation, and there are no DTCs present, then contact GM Technical Assistance for direction. The most common condition customers have noticed is with 0 EV range remaining, the vehicle was parked for a few hours and the message appeared upon restart. Once the engine is able to charge the battery slightly, the message should disappear, which is approximately a few minutes in duration depending on the drive cycle.
