NO BRAKING FORCE ASSISTANCE AFTER ENGINE START,
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 480705 / 480706
MODEL
G05 (X5 Sports Activity Vehicle)
G07 (X7 SAV)

G20 (3 Series Sedan)
G29 (Z4 Roadster)
SITUATION
When starting the vehicle• The red brake warning light lights up in the instrument cluster
• The braking force assistance has failed (stiff brake pedal)
• Check Control message appears: Drive at a moderate speed. Braking force assistance.
The red warning lamp disappears after engine restart, and braking force assistance is available again.
CAUSE
Unfavorable software of the Integrated Brake System (IB) for the G05, G07 and G15; or Dynamic Stability
Control (DSC) control unit for G20 and G29.
CORRECTION
Program the vehicle with ISTA 4.16.1x or higher, to I-level S18A-19-03-522 or higher.
• ISTA 4.16.1 became available early March, 2019
PROCEDURE
1. Perform a vehicle test if either or both of the following faults are stored in the IB or DSC:

2. Read out I level of the vehicle.
Is the I-level is less (lower) than S18A-19-03-522?
Yes: Program and encode the vehicle with ISTA 4.16.1x to I level S18A-19-03-522 or higher.
Do not replace any parts
No: Do not program the vehicle. Perform diagnosis with ISTA using applicable test plans.

Note: ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not
have the latest software.
Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead of
00 00 006.
Refer to AIR for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.
During the same workshop visit, if a vehicle also requires another Technical Campaign or repair that also
includes programming and encoding the control units, the programming procedure may only be invoiced one
time.
Programming and Encoding - Vehicle Control Units
A. The programming procedure automatically reprograms and encodes all vehicle control modules which
do not have the latest software i-level. If one or more control module failures occur during this
programming procedure:
• Please claim this consequential control module-related repair work under the defect code listed in this
bulletin with the applicable AIR labor operations.

Please explain this additional work (The why and what) on the repair order and in the claim comments
section.
B. For control module failures that occurred prior to performing this programming procedure:
• When covered under an applicable limited warranty, claim this control module-related repair work
using the applicable defect code and labor operations (including diagnosis) in AIR.

If other eligible and covered work is performed as a result of performing the ISTA diagnostics and related test
plans, claim this work with the applicable defect code and the labor operations (including diagnosis) that are
listed in AIR.
