Repair Procedure
1. Confirm the condition exists.
Using Techstream, check for the following stored DTCs.
 U0232 – Lost Communication with Blind Spot Monitor Slave Module
 U0233 – Lost Communication with Blind Spot Monitor Master Module
 C1AC1 – Master Module Horizontal Axis Misalignment
 C1AC2 – Slave Module Horizontal Axis Misalignment
 C1AB6 – Blind Spot Monitor Master Module
 C1AB7 – Blind Spot Monitor Slave Module
Are ANY of the DTCs listed above present?
 YES — Continue to step 2.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Remove the rear bumper assembly.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

2016 Tacoma:

3. Replace both blind spot monitor sensors.
A. Remove the blind spot monitor sensor.

B. Install the blind spot monitor sensor
with the three nuts.

Torque: 9.0 N*m (92 kgf*cm, 80 in*lbf)

4. Temporarily install the bumper onto the vehicle.
HINT
The bumper MUST be installed without extension housings covering the blind spot monitor sensor.
This will allow completion of the blind spot monitor installation condition inspection section of the
operation check.

5. Perform the blind spot monitor system operation check.

6. Remove the rear bumper assembly.
