Cause: In certain unexpected fault events a message will be displayed to the driver, where the fault condition is no longer present, the message is only displayed until the next Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) power cycle (vehicle switched OFF – sleep cycle completed). Under these unexpected fault conditions HV propulsion system will react in a controlled way depending on severity, and a DTC logged in the BECM (the BECM monitors the HV propulsion system - this does not necessarily mean there is a fault with the HV Traction Battery). It should also be noted, before the BECM software is updated, without investigating the origin of the Intermittent DTC, this will result in potentially ignoring the reason for the customer concern. Action: 1, Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, perform the guided diagnostics associated with BECM DTC. 2, If guided diagnostics is not available: Gather information about vehicle usage, conditions when the warning message was triggered. Complete Test Operation Cycle – confirm DTC status (The DTC status fields should be used to confirm whether the fault condition for the DTC is still present.) Raise a Technical Assistance (TA). Attach the Pathfinder session file using 'Pathfinder Sessions' Use the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) as a reference number in the Customer Comments field. Describe primary and secondary diagnostics complete. Note: If the intermittent DTC does not reoccur and the triggering conditions for the DTC were investigated, then the DTC can be cleared: 1, Clear DTCs using JLR approved diagnostic equipment Select 'ECU Diagnostics'. Select 'All DTCs'. https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topix/content/document/view?id=990021 1/2 6/5/2019 TOPIx - SSM74401 - BECM Intermittent DTCs flagging Battery System warning message on the Instrument Cluster Select 'Clear all DTCs'. 2, Complete a vehicle sleep cycle: Turn off the ignition. Close all doors. Lock the vehicle. Wait for the hazard warning switch illumination to extinguish. Unlock the vehicle. 3, Connect the JLR approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a new session. Select 'ECU Diagnostics'. Select 'All DTCs'. If BECM DTCs are still present then perform guided diagnostics associated with the DTC. https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topix/content/document/view?id=990021 2/2
