Service Technical Information 169/18 ENU 4641 4 Noise Symptom - Rear Axle Brake Excessive Noise (I-no. 2EQ/2ES): Replacing brake pad retainer springs (SY 169/18) Model Line: Cayenne (9YA) Model Year: As of 2018 up to 2019 Equipment: • • Rear disc brakes, disc diameter: 20 inches, brake caliper painted white (PSCB) (I-no. 2EQ) Rear disc brakes, disc diameter: 20 inches, brake caliper painted green (PSCB) (I-no. 2ES) Subject: Rear brake pad retainer springs Symptom: • • Cause: A squealing noise can be heard during braking (this noise tends to occur shortly before stopping and when the brake pedal is pressed lightly). A noise can also occur after driving off at low speeds. The high-performance brake system is designed to achieve the best possible braking effect at all speeds and temperatures. • Noises can occur under certain conditions, depending on various factors. These noises are normal and generally not an indication of a malfunction. While some brake system noise is normal in a high performance brake system, excessive noise may be an indication of an insufficient preload on the brake pad retainer springs. > Normal brake noises, such as squeal, occur under a narrow set of operating condition. An example would be low speed, light brake pedal application. > Abnormal brake noises occur under wider operating conditions. An example would be during light or heavy braking at any speed or temperature Remedial Action: If you confirm excessive noise, replace the existing brake pad retainer springs with new springs with a higher preload, see Workshop Manual '463856 Replacing rear disc brake pads'. Information The following points must be observed in relation to the part numbers listed below and the relevant vehicle (depending on equipment): • Part number indexes will increase over time. Before performing repairs, cross reference with PET (Porsche Spare Parts Catalog), for newer parts (higher index). • PET must be checked to determine if additional components are needed. • Particular/modified components, whose part numbers are listed accordingly, are required for the remedial action.
