Subject: Engineering Information – Service Engine Soon Lamp Illuminated, Oil Leak Coming from Valve Rocker Arm Oil Control Valve, DTCs P0300, P3433, P3435 or P3409 Set Attention: Proceed with this EI ONLY if the customer has commented about this concern AND the PIE number is listed in the Global Warranty Management / Investigate History link (GWM/IVH). If the customer has not commented about this condition or the EI does not show in GWM/IVH, disregard the PI and proceed with diagnostics found in published service information. THIS IS NOT A RECALL — refer to the latest version of Service Bulletin 04-00-89-053 for more details on the use of Engineering Information bulletins. Condition Some customers may comment that the service engine lamp is illuminated. Technicians may find oil leaking from the valve rocker arm oil control valve (2), as shown in the picture above, and/or one of the following DTCs set: • P0300: Engine Controls and Fuel • P3433: Engine Controls and Fuel • P3435: Engine Controls and Fuel • P3409: Engine Controls and Fuel GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the above condition. Engineering has a need to gather information on vehicles PRIOR to repair that may exhibit this condition. As a result, this information will be used to "root cause" the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix. Cause Correction Note: If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this concern, DO NOT proceed with this EI. If you encounter a vehicle with the above concern, perform the following steps and contact the engineer name below with your findings. 1. Take a picture of the oil leak at the OCV location. A video is preferred so the engineer can determine the leak rate and leak location. If a video is not an option, a picture will be just fine. 2. Once it has been confirmed that the leak is coming from around the OCV, please send the pictures and/or video to the engineer noted below and call for further direction. 3. If engineer does not call back within the 2-hour requirement, it will be necessary to replace the camshaft cover without removing the OCV. Keeping the OCV intact without removing will be key to diagnosing this concern. Contact Information Engineer Name Phone Number Brad Kaan 248-285-0991 Please include the following information if leaving a message: – Technician name – Dealer name and phone number – Complete VIN and repair order (R.O) number On the repair order, document the date and time the call was placed (even if the engineer was not reached). If engineering is unable to return the call within 2 hours, proceed with diagnosis and repair based on information found in SI.
