Condition/Concern The technician may find a check engine light and a DTC P0C4A set immediately after a repair of the high voltage battery cooling system that involves draining and refilling of the coolant. Some customers may also return to the dealer with a check engine light within days or weeks of a cooling system repair. Recommendation/Instructions Determine if a repair to the high voltage battery cooling system was recently performed. If repairs were recently performed, it is necessary to follow the procedure below: 1. Purge the rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) using the Vac-N-Fill Coolant Refill Tool and the Global Diagnostic System 2 (GDS2). 2. Clear the codes. 3. Test drive the vehicle using the different drive modes. 4. Check and readjust the RESS coolant level and return the vehicle to the customer. If repairs to the high voltage battery cooling system were not recently performed, it is necessary to follow Strategy-Based Diagnostics (SBD) (DOC ID# 1957622) to properly diagnose and repair the concern.
