Please discard PIT5479B. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition / Concern A technician may comment that, during service, it appears there is fluid leaking from the brake caliper piston area. Shown below are examples of newer low mileage vehicles and older higher mileage vehicles. Recommendations / Instructions The substance shown is actually excess assembly grease from the caliper boot and piston installation. This grease can be cleaned off and the rest of the service completed. NOTE: When diagnosing a brake fluid leak or certain DTC's for hydraulic brake circuit leaks, such as C05B0, do not confuse excessive assembly grease as a brake fluid leak. If it is uncertain what is seen is assembly grease, then clean off the excessive grease and apply the brake pedal 20 times and re-inspect for a leak. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. © 2020 General Motors. All Rights Reserved.
