Technical Background
If the steering column end stop is damaged to where the wiper and turn signal stalks will touch the dash, this can
cause the steering column to become faulty and require replacement. This may be accompanied by fault P160A
stored in the Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764-, and/or B1248F3 stored in the Access/Start
Authorization Control Module -J518-.
Service

Unlock the telescoping steering wheel and push it slowly towards the dash board.
If the stalks touch the dash board, the steering end stop is damaged.


Remove the steering column covers and check for any wiring damage that may be present to the harnesses
near the steering column.
Repair as needed.
Once repaired or if there was not any wiring damage found, it is recommended to:

Replace the steering column assembly and adapt the new Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module J764- to the vehicle.
If it is found that the steering column end stop is not damaged and the stalks do not touch the dash:

Replace only the Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module -J764-.
