New Subaru Service Campaign/Voluntary Emissions Recall: WUJ-95 Front Exhaust Pipe Bellows Crack
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is initiating a service campaign/voluntary emissions recall for certain
2015-2016 model year Legacy and Outback vehicles. This campaign will involve replacement of the front
exhaust pipe containing the catalytic converter.
Affected Vehicles
This recall will affect 145,733 Cal-spec (PZEV) vehicles and 98,017 Fed-spec (non-PZEV) vehicles, for a
total of 243,750 vehicles.

Coverage for this campaign must be confirmed by using the Vehicle Coverage Inquiry function on
subarunet.com. The affected VINs will be made available in phases, as the owner notification letters are
scheduled for release. The VINs included in the February mailing will be loaded today.
Please refer to the ‘Owner Notification’ section of this message, and in the Service Program Bulletin on
STIS for more information on the phased release.
Background
Certain 2015 and 2016 Subaru Outback and Legacy vehicles may experience an exhaust noise and / or
smell coming from cracks at the bellows of the front exhaust pipe which includes the catalytic converter.
A leak occurring at the front exhaust pipe may result in deterioration of emission performance.
As a result, affected vehicle may fail to meet emission levels certified by the EPA and/or California ARB.
Description of the Remedy
Subaru retailers will replace the front exhaust pipe on all potentially affected vehicles.
Retailer Responsibility
Any vehicles listed in any recall/campaign that are in retailer stock must be:

Immediately identified.
Tagged or otherwise marked to prevent their delivery or use prior to repair.
Repaired in accordance with the repair procedures outlined in the Product Campaign Bulletin.
Retailers are to promptly perform the applicable service procedures to correct all affected vehicles in
their inventory (used, demo & SSLP). Additionally, whenever a vehicle subject to this recall is taken into
retailer inventory necessary steps should be taken to ensure the recall correction has been made before
selling or releasing the vehicle. Each Subaru retailer will receive an affected VIN list from their Zone
Office prior to owner notification.
Owner Notification
Affected vehicle owners will be notified in phases based on their physical location, the emissions
specification of their vehicle (Cal-spec or Fed-spec), and phased parts production schedules. Listed in
the table below is the current phased mailing plan:
