SITUATION:
A loud noise can be heard coming from the engine compartment. Investigation has found
that the engine cooling fan is constantly running at high speed and the following Diagnostic
Trouble Codes (DTCs) may be stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM):

CAUSE:
The coolant diversion shroud inside the variable coolant pump is not moving to the correct
position when requested by the PCM. The PCM then activates the engine cooling fans at
high speed to avoid potential over heating. A new service part is now available.
ACTION:
Follow the instructions below.

NOTE:
Normal Warranty procedures apply.
DIAGNOSTIC INSTRUCTION:
1.
CAUTION:
This procedure requires Pathfinder version 272 loaded or a later version.
NOTES:
The JLR approved diagnostic equipment will read the correct Vehicle
Identification Number (VIN) for the current vehicle and automatically
take the vehicle out of ‘Transportation mode’ if required.
All ignition ON/OFF instructions must be followed. Failure to complete
these instructions may cause damage to the vehicle control modules.
Connect the JLR approved battery support unit.

Connect the JLR approved diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin a new
diagnostic session.
3.
Follow the JLR approved diagnostic equipment prompts.
4.
Select 'ECU Diagnostics'.
5.
Select 'All DTCs'.
If P2B61-73 and/or P26CB-72 are stored in the PCM, continue to
step 6.
If P2B61-73 and/or P26CB-72 are not stored in the PCM, this
bulletin does not apply, continue to diagnose the concern using
the TOPIx Workshop Manual (section 303-03B: Engine Cooling Ingenium I4 2.0L Petrol - Diagnosis and Testing).
6.
Select 'ECU Diagnostics'.
Select 'Powertrain Control Module [PCM]'.
Select 'Update ECU'.
Follow all on-screen instructions to complete the task.
7.
If required, reset the vehicle to ‘Transportation Mode’.
8.
When all of the tasks are complete, exit the session.
9.
Disconnect the JLR approved diagnostic equipment and the JLR approved battery
support unit.
10.
Renew the variable coolant pump (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 303-03:
Engine Cooling - Ingenium I4 2.0L Petrol - Removal and Installation - Coolant
Pump).
