COOLANT LEAKING FROM THE LOW TEMPERATURE COOLING
SYSTEM (B58C ENGINE)

This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B17 02 20 dated March 2020.

SITUATION
Symptom 1: There are traces of coolant leaking under the vehicle, or there is significant pressure released
along with coolant loss when opening the low temperature cooling system reservoir (engine cold).
The following fault code may also be stored in the DME:
20A201 – Charge air cooling system: Coolant pump protective function activated due to dry
running
Symptom 2*: The air conditioning may have low cooling output with the following fault stored in the IHKA:
80120A - Compressor: Shut down due to overpressure in refrigerant system
* Symptom 2 is an additional symptom related to Symptom 1. Diagnose the IHKA fault with ISTA test
plans if it is the only fault stored (if no DME faults are stored related to coolant loss, this bulletin repair
does not apply).
CAUSE
Premature breakdown of the coolant with gassing in the low temperature cooling system.
CORRECTION
Drain and refill the low temperature cooling system twice.
PROCEDURE
Only use BMW-approved coolant P/N 83 19 2 468 442.
Follow Repair Instruction 17 00 011 Draining and topping up coolant for low temperature circuit.
Drain and refill the cooling system after the final procedure in the repair instruction (Venting the lowtemperature cooling system).
Drain and refill the system with new coolant and repeat 17 00 011 repair instructions.
NOTE: Submit a TSARA Hotline Case for further assistance, if the vehicle returns with the same
issue/symptom a second time.

Work time labor operation codes 61 00 006 and 17 99 000 are not considered a Main labor operations. Also,
since the work time FRU allowances to be claimed are specified, separate punch times are not required.
However, they still require an explanation on the repair order and in the claim comments section.
