DRIVE UNIT POWER TAILGATE REPLACEMENT
SUBJECT:
Description: This bulletin provides information on how to properly replace the Drive Unit Power Tailgate
Assembly (LH or RH or LH and RH) when the tailgate exhibits difficulty opening/closing and/or noisy
operation.
Note: Replace one side of the Drive Unit Power Tailgate Assembly first, then inspect if the condition still
occurs. If the condition still occurs, replace the other side of the Drive Unit Power Tailgate Assembly.
Applicable Vehicles: Certain 19-20MY Santa Fe (TMa) produced from 05/24/18 - 02/11/20

NOTE 1: Submit Claim on Campaign Claim Entry Screen
NOTE 2: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing the repair for this TSB, and the
affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the same Repair Order. If the
affected part is out of warranty, submit a prior approval request for goodwill consideration prior to
performing the work.

DRIVE UNIT POWER TAILGATE REPLACEMENT
Service Procedure:
1.
The lift gate must be held open with a prop
rod when replacing the Drive Unit Accessory
Power Tailgate Assembly.
2.
Locate the tailgate lamp.
Remove the lamp cover.
3.
Remove both Phillips Head screws.

Remove the two headliner clips.
5.
Gently disengage the LH or RH rear quarter
panel while lowering the headliner to access
the Drive Unit Power Tailgate Assembly wire
harness.

If applicable, expose the Drive Unit
Assembly connection.
Disconnect the wiring from the harness and
pull the harness from the vehicle.
7.
Remove the two Drive Unit Assembly bolts.
Tightening Torque:

DRIVE UNIT POWER TAILGATE REPLACEMENT
Using a screwdriver, remove the socket clip
from the Drive Unit Assembly.

Pull the Drive Unit Assembly away from the
vehicle.
10.
Replace the Drive Unit Assembly, and
reassemble all parts in reverse order of
removal.
11.
Manually fully close the tailgate, and then
open the tailgate by pressing the tailgate
button.
Confirm that the tailgate operates as
designed.
12.
The service procedure is now complete.
