5/28/2020 Lubricating Oil Consumption in Low Load and High Idle Application Technical Service Bulletin Technical Service Bulletin: TSB200110 Released Date: 13-May-2020 Lubricating Oil Consumption in Low Load and High Idle Application Lubricating Oil Consumption in Low Load and High Idle Application Warranty Statement The information in this document has no effect on present warranty coverage or repair practices, nor does it authorize TRP or Campaign actions. Contents Product Affected Engines: L9N CM2380 L124B L9N CM2380 L130B ISL G CM2180 (Only engines equipped with steel pistons) Application: Transit bus 280 hp Issue Engines operating in a low load and high idle duty cycle may experience elevated lubricating oil consumption and/or fault codes associated with high EGR temperature. Review of returned parts has yielded no physical damage or dimensional issues. Furthermore, replacing power cylinders or overhauling with new parts, without any change in duty cycle, has shown no long-term improvement in lubricating oil consumption. Root Cause Under investigation. Verification Confirm that any of the following fault codes are present: High EGR Temperature Fault Codes: 2961: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature - Data Valid But Above Normal Operating Range - Least Severe Level https://quickserve.cummins.com/qs3/pubsys2/xml/en/tsb/2020/tsb200110.html 1/3 5/28/2020 Lubricating Oil Consumption in Low Load and High Idle Application 2962: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature - Data Valid But Above Normal Operating Range - Moderately Severe Level Verify oil consumption is greater than the amount outlined in “Lubricating Oil Consumption and Acceptable Limits”, Service Bulletin 3379214 Verify the EGR cooler is fouled or plugged Resolution Reduce idle time as much as possible. If the EGR cooler is fouled or plugged clean the EGR cooler as described in Service Procedure 011-019 EGR Cooler in Section 11. Service Instructions Follow Clean and Inspect for Reuse section in 011-019 EGR Cooler in Section 11 of the Service Manual. Use a degreaser in place of safety solvent, and soak for an additional 30 minutes to an hour total. Steam clean EGR cooler and reuse.
