Classification: Reference: EL20-024 Date: NTB20-052 July 17, 2020 2020 SENTRA; REAR DOOR ALERT SERVICE INFORMATION APPLIED VEHICLE: 2020 Sentra (B18) SERVICE INFORMATION This bulletin contains supplemental information related to the rear door alert system on 2020 Sentra models. Although the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) should be the primary source of information for inspection, diagnosis, and repair, the supplemental information in this bulletin will assist in these areas. The information in this bulletin includes: Rear door alert description How to turn the rear door alert system on and off How to turn the horn alert function on and off Vehicle information display messages Rear door alert operation NOTE: Do NOT replace the BCM for a rear door alert concern unless all information in this bulletin has been reviewed and the concern has been verified to be abnormal. IMPORTANT: The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire SERVICE PROCEDURE as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle. 1/5 REAR DOOR ALERT DESCRIPTION The rear door alert functions under certain conditions to indicate there may be an object in the rear seat. The rear door alert does not directly sense or detect objects in the rear seat. Instead, it can detect when the rear door is opened or closed, indicating that there may be something in the rear seat. HOW TO TURN THE REAR DOOR ALERT SYSTEM ON AND OFF 1. Press the left or right arrow button, on the left side of the steering wheel, until Settings displays. 2. Press the up or down arrow button to select Vehicle Settings. 3. Press the OK button. 4. Press the up or down arrow button to select Rear Door Alert. 5. Press the OK button. Figure 1 6. Highlight OFF and press the OK button to turn the system off. 7. Deselect OFF and press the OK button to turn the system on (not shown). Figure 2 2/5 NTB20-052 HOW TO TURN THE HORN ALERT FUNCTION ON AND OFF Follow steps 1-5 on page 2 to enter the Rear Door Alert menu. Highlight Horn & Alert and press the OK button if the horn alert function is desired. Highlight Alert Only and press the OK button if the horn alert function is not desired. NOTE: If the alert function is NOT desired, the Rear Door Alert system must be turned off (steps 1-6 on page 2). Figure 3 VEHICLE INFORMATION DISPLAY MESSAGES When the rear door alert is active, the message in Figure 4 appears to remind the driver to check the rear seat. If desired, Dismiss Message can be selected to clear the display. If desired, Disable Alert can be selected to disable the rear door alert for the current trip. If no selection is made, this message will disappear after a period of time. Figure 4 3/5 NTB20-052 REAR DOOR ALERT OPERATION NOTE: For the rear door alert system to function, it must be turned ON in Vehicle Settings. Conditions when rear door alert will be activated The rear door alert system is activated when the vehicle is driven within approximately 10 minutes of opening a rear door. Once the system is activated, the horn will sound (if selected) and the vehicle information display message will display on every trip UNLESS deactivated by one of the two methods: o The driver opens a rear door within a short time after arriving at their destination. o Dismiss Message is selected in the vehicle information display (Figure 4). Conditions when rear door alert will NOT be activated If one of the rear doors is used, but the vehicle is not driven within approximately 10 minutes, the system will not be activated. Exiting the vehicle with the rear door alert activated When the driver exits the vehicle, after arriving at a destination, a rear door must be opened within a short time to deactivate the alert. If the driver exits the vehicle while the rear door alert is active, the message Check Rear Seat for All Articles will be displayed, and the horn will sound, (if selected as shown in Figure 3 on page 3). Figure 5 If the driver exits the vehicle and the doors are locked before the alert is deactivated, the horn will sound (if selected).
