This bulletin supersedes Service Bulletin 09-001-20, dated January 18, 2020, which should be removed from your files. All revisions are highlighted with **asterisks** and includes updated build date. This Service Bulletin is also being released as Rapid Response Transmittal (RRT) 19-102, dated December 14, 2019. All applicable Sold and Un-Sold RRT VINs have been loaded. To verify this RRT service action is applicable to the vehicle, use VIP or perform a VIN search in DealerCONNECT/Service Library. All repairs are reimbursable within the provisions of warranty. SUBJECT: Oil Filter Upgrade OVERVIEW: This bulletin involves replacing the existing engine oil filter with an upgraded version. MODELS: 2018 - 2020 (WK) Jeep Grand Cherokee NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: APAC. NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or after September 13, 2017 (MDH 0913XX) and vehicles built on or before **June 25, 2020 (MDH 0625XX)**, equipped with the 3.0L Turbo Diesel Engines (Sales Code EXF) or equipped with the 3.0L Turbo Diesel Engines W/ESS (Sales Code EXN). SYMPTOM/CONDITION: This action is a proactive product improvement which adds enhanced filtration and flow performance for the upgraded filter. DIAGNOSIS: If a customer’s VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. This RRT only applies to vehicles on the RRT VIN list. PARTS REQUIRED: Qty. 1 Part No. 68492616AA Description Filter, Engine Oil 09-001-20 REV. A -2- REPAIR PROCEDURE: NOTE: Only the oil filter cartridge needs to be replaced. DO NOT drain the oil for this repair. 1. Warm up the engine. 2. Remove the engine cover. 3. Open the filter cap approximately six turns until the O-ring is visible and air is allowed into the filter housing. Do not completely remove the filter or cap at this time. 4. Allow 5 minutes for oil to drain from filter housing into sump. 5. Remove the filter cap and element. 6. While holding the oil filter cap, push down on the filter element base to separate it from the cover, and remove the filter element. 7. Remove and discard the O-Ring. Clean the filter cap. 8. Lubricate and install the NEW oil filter cap O-Ring gasket with clean engine oil. Ensure the O-Ring is installed in the correct location. 9. Install the new filter element into the oil filter cap. 10. Install oil filter cap and tighten to 25 N·m (18 ft. lbs or 221 in. lbs). 11. Start the engine and inspect for leaks. 12. Stop the engine, and wait five minutes, then check the oil level. 13. Verify oil level is at proper specifications. 14. Install the engine cover.
