CONDITION
Some 2014-2020 model year Tundra vehicles with a TRD skid plate may exhibit a “creaking” or
“crackling” noise coming from the lower front end. The source of this noise has been pinpointed in
several cases to the TRD skid plate contacting the frame crossmember.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Reference TRD Skid Plate installation instructions for proper re-installation of the skid plate assembly.
Give special attention to the critical notes listed below.
Note 1:
Contact between skid plate and frame crossmember is by design. DO NOT MODIFY
skid plate hardware, add shims, washers,
insulating material, etc. The TRD skid plate
has been engineered for use as a front lifting
point. Deviation from the designed hardware
could result in damage to the skid plate
during lifting.
Note 2:
Skid plate fastener torques are CRITICAL to
prevent abnormal noise and ensure safe
usage of integrated jack point. See torque
reference table, Fig. 1-1.
