B2 (LH) Intake Camshaft- Design Change
INTRODUCTION:
This Service Information Bulletin announces availability of a new B2 (LH) INTAKE Camshaft. The
change was made in response to a small number of reports describing a tapping sound coming from
the upper left (driver’s) side of the engine, primarily heard during warm-up after a cold start. An
additional oil groove has been added to the B2 (LH) INTAKE camshaft to eliminate the source of the
sound. In the interest of production process unification, ALL intake and exhaust camshafts will now
have a similar groove, but replacement of ONLY the B2 (LH) INTAKE Camshaft is required for this
repair.
PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION:
The new intake camshaft was incorporated into production starting with the following VINs:

Forester: LH585809
•
Legacy: L3033770
•
Outback: L3263394
PART INFORMATION:
REMINDER: Always order the most up-to-date replacement parts based on the specific VIN being
repaired.
The new intake camshaft part number is: 13037AB251.

The service procedures for camshaft replacement remain unchanged. Always refer to the applicable
Service Manual and review the full requirements of the repair being performed. The Service
Manual procedures contain information critical to performing an effective repair the first time, every
time. This includes but is not limited to important SAFETY precautions, proper inspection criteria,
necessary special tools, required processes and related one-time-use parts needed for a complete and
lasting repair.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When addressing this condition, ONLY the B2 INTAKE camshaft should be
replaced. Replacing the other 3 camshafts is NOT required.
