Repair Procedure
1. Confirm the condition exists.
Does the vehicle exhibit a chirp noise from the main accessory drive belt?

YES — Continue to step 2.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Remove the main accessory drive belt.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
2016 – 2020 Tacoma:
Engine/Hybrid System – Engine Mechanical – “2GR-FKS (Engine Mechanical):
Drive Belt: Removal”
3. Start the engine and confirm the condition is NOT present with the main accessory
drive belt removed.
NOTICE
Only run the engine for MAXIMUM of 10 seconds with the drive belt removed.
Does the vehicle exhibit a chirp noise with the main accessory drive belt removed?

NO — Continue to step 4.

YES — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.

4. Install the NEW main accessory drive belt.
NOTE
BEFORE installing new main accessory drive belt:
 Ensure pulleys are clean of debris and dry.
 Confirm component pulley alignment.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

NOTE
 Slight wobble of the upper idler pulley is a
normal condition.
 Refer to the video link for an example of a

5. Test-drive the vehicle to confirm the condition no longer exists.
