SAFETY RECALL 14S02 - CORROSION AT FORWARD ATTACHMENT OF LOWER CONTROL ARM - REQUESTS FOR RECALL SERVICE ACTION TSB 16-0071 FORD: 2001-2004 Escape This article supersedes TSB 14-0163 to provide updated contact direction to the Special Service Support Center. ISSUE 2001-2004 Escape vehicles Safety Recall 14S02 has been issued for vehicles that are operated in high corrosion areas for an extended period, where a corrosion-related separation of the forward attachment of the lower control arm (LCA) from the subframe may occur. Separation of the LCA from the subframe may result in diminished vehicle directional control, increasing the risk of a crash. ACTION Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. For 2001-2004 Escape vehicles that are not covered under Safety Recall 14S02 but exhibit corrosion at the forward attachment of the lower control arm, dealers can submit a Non-Involved Vehicle type contact to the Special Service Support Center (SSSC) from the PTS website to request recall service action. Dealers should provide pictures of the VIN tag, Odometer and an image of both front forward lower control arm to subframe attachment areas on the vehicle. Dealers located in U.S. Federalized Territories (America Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands) must contact [email protected] to request recall service action. 2. If approved, follow Safety Recall 14S02. Dealers are to install a reinforcement crossbrace on the subframe so that steering control can be maintained in the event of a separation of the forward attachment of the LCA. If the forward attachment of the LCA has already separated, provide the required information as indicated in Attachment III of Safety Recall 14S02: Technical information to request approval to replace the subframe.
