Warranty Extension: 2013 ILX Hybrid Intelligent Inverter Unit
Today, December 18, 2020, Acura is announcing a warranty extension for certain 2013 ILX Hybrid vehicles.
This warranty extension covers the intelligent inverter unit (IIU) to address possible concerns of various
warning lights turning on and diminishing electric motor power, braking or steering assistance control.
American Honda is extending the warranty coverage of the IIU to 15 years from the original date of
purchase or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.
BACKGROUND
Micro voids may begin to form in the soldering material used during the IIU produc on process, which
over me may lead to a physical break in a solder joint on the circuit board. A solder joint break may
cause an open or short circuit within the IIU, deac va ng certain IMA func ons. This failure may also
result in illumina on of the 12V ba ery warning light and decreased power supply to the 12V ba ery,
which may lead to a series of system malfunc ons.
REPAIR
Replace the IIU.
PARTS
Parts are available through normal ordering.
TOOLS
There are no special tools needed for this campaign.
SERVICE BULLETIN
Service bulle n 20-021, Warranty Extension: 2013 ILX Hybrid IMA Motor Power Inverter (MPI) has been posted
to the Service Informa on System (SIS) as of December 18, 2020. It includes parts, repair, and warranty
informa on related to this campaign.
CLIENT NOTIFICATION
Acura expects to begin client no fica on in early February 2021.
