Special Service Message
NOTE: A Special Service Message is a formal communication issued by Jaguar and carries the
same importance of a Technical Service Bulletin. An SSM is a quick method of communicating
"Need To Know" information to the technical service community. SSM's may be issued in advance
of a technical bulletin or may be the only communication on a given topic. All information
contained in Jaguar technical communications are intended for use by trained, professional
technicians with the knowledge, tools, and equipment required to complete the procedure
correctly and safely. It informs the Technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or
provides information that could assist in correct vehicle and diagnostic service.

It is advisable to use this process on vehicles after work has been completed on
areas of the vehicle that may affect the vehicle’s range.
Cause:
Predicted range is calculated in the car from the battery energy divided by a term
called the consumption gradient. The consumption gradient value changes over
time to adapt to the user’s driving and other parameters. This process describes
the procedure to reset the consumption gradient’s learned values
Action:
1 . Turn on the ignition, make sure the vehicle is not running (Power Mode 6
Ignition on, not running)
2 . Fully depress the brake pedal.
3 . Whilst holding the brake pedal, immediately push down the accelerator
pedal.
4 . Hold both pedals depressed for 10 seconds
5 . The range displayed on the dash should increase. The amount by which it
increases will vary from vehicle to vehicle. An example is attached
