Case Number: S2018000005 REV. A Release Date: 1/21/2021 Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P046C – Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor “A” Circuit Low Set. Discussion: Some customers may experience a MIL illumination. Upon further investigation, a technician may find DTC P046C set in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Reports from replaced parts returned from the field have indicated that the root cause is most likely due to an internal short within the EGR valve circuitry. Oftentimes when the short happens in the valve, it will damage the internal circuitry in the PCM. If you receive a vehicle with this DTC, please perform the following: 1. Prior to clearing any DTCs, save the following information: a. Current Vehicle Scan Report b. Current Freeze Frame Report c. Engine Duty Cycle Report (this can be found in Wi-Tech under PCM Misc Functions) 2. Once the information has been saved, perform the normal published diagnosis for the DTC. 3. If diagnostics led to EGR valve replacement, replace the valve, and retest. 4. If the DTC remains, replace the PCM as it is most likely damaged due to the faulty EGR valve.
