Some customers may comment that the MIL is Illuminated.
Some technicians may find DTC P0741 (Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) System Stuck
Off) set as an active or history code.
Cause 1

This condition may be caused by a damaged turbine shaft front bushing (218) in vehicles
with mileage less than 10,000 miles (approx. 16,000 km).
⇒ The turbine shaft may also be damaged in the journal area that is in contact
with this bushing.

This condition may be caused by a damaged clutch friction material in the torque
converter in vehicles with mileage above 30,000 miles (approx. 48,000 km).
Perform a line pressure check.
⇒ If the line pressure is low, check the trans pump for damage and refer to the
latest version of PI1447.
Correction
1. Connect GDS to the vehicle for a road test.
2. Select TCM and navigate to the TCC dynamic test screen.
3. Drive the vehicle at approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) and command the TCC on and
off several times. Note if the TCC engages;
⇒ Should feel TCC engagement and see tachometer drop.
⇒ TCC slip speed will drop to near zero.
• If TCC does not engage, refer to SI for P0741 to test for circuit/electrical problem and/
or sticking TCC apply valve.
• If the TCC does engage, refer to the Service Procedure below.
Service Procedure
1. Replace the torque converter. Refer to Torque
Converter Replacement in SI.

2. Remove the transmission oil pan.
3. Inspect the magnet in the pan for excessive metal
accumulation.
• If there was no signs of metal in the oil pan,
install the pan and no further work is required.
• If there was excessive metal shaving in the oil
pan magnet, Install new filter when
reassembling and continue to step 4.
4. Remove the upper and lower valve body and clean
thoroughly.
5. Inspect the TEHCM solenoid screen for debris:
• If there was no signs of metal in the TEHCM,
install the pan and no further work is required.
• If there was excessive debris in the TEHCM,
replace the TEHCM/solenoid valve body Only if
there is debris on the screen as shown above

Do Not replace the pump if no signs of damage or
excessive wear was not validated during inspection as
shown above.

Note: Refer to the latest version of PI1447 for possible
bushing/shaft scoring. Replace parts as necessary.
