 The noise may get louder at higher temperatures or with longer journey time.

Workshop findings:
 The noise comes from the
sealing sleeve/steering column
opening on the bulkhead.
 The steering column adjustment
is set in the lower range.
 The steering shaft rests on the
cone of the sealing sleeve
(Figure 1).

Technical Background
Incorrect positioning of the sealing sleeve (lip) in the bulkhead in connection with unfavorable tolerances of the
components.

Note:
This procedure contains mandatory replaceable parts. Refer to component overview and parts catalog prior to
starting the procedure.
Proceed as follows:
1.
Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the steering column.

2.
Loosen the rubber sealing sleeve (A) and
push it upwards as far as possible and
retighten (Figure 2).

3.
Reinstall the steering intermediate shaft (B)
to the steering column (C) and tighten with
new bolts (D) (Figure 3).
