3 Bulletin #: 2102 Advanced Technical Information Part ID: 3412 982 – 4.0 liter Manual Transmission Cable Unclamps at Transmission Housing Bracket Vehicles Affected Models Model Year Model Type VIN Range Vehicle-Specific Equipment 718 As of 2020 up to 2021 982510, 982810, 982160, 982360 N/A 480 – 6-speed manual transmission Revision History Revision Release Date Changes 0 March 18, 2021 Original document Condition The customer complains the reverse, 1st, 3rd, or 5th gears do not engage; or the vehicle will not change gears despite a change in the position of the shift lever. The workshop determines the shift cable’s integrated clamp comes loose from its mounting bracket on the transmission’s driver side. When this occurs, the cable is loose and shifting is not possible. Technical Background Suspected is, that the mating surfaces of the clamp to the bracket do not fully engage at assembly. (See arrows in Fig. 1.) This condition occurs during vehicle operation. Many possible modes leading to the loosening could exist to explain this detachment. This matter is under investigation. In the meantime, please perform the instruction highlighted below, if the cable detaches.
