SUBJECT:
Description: This bulletin provides a front brake pad backing plate grease application procedure to
address squealing during braking.
Applicable Vehicles: All gasoline powered Kona (OS) vehicles produced from Start Of Production
(SOP) to September 17, 2020.

FRONT BRAKE PAD BACKING PLATE GREASE APPLICATION

Service Procedure:

1.
Remove the brake pad according to the
vehicle shop manual.
Brake System > Brake System > Front
Disc Brake
NOTICE

Do not remove the disc nor caliper
carrier.
Reuse the return spring, pad retainer,
and shims.

2.
Apply a thin layer of grease on the edges of
the inner and outer brake pad backing plate
as shown on the reference diagram.
Each pad should receive 0.250 grams (0.009
ounces) of grease or 0.125 grams per edge
(approximately 1 gram per vehicle).

CAUTION
Prevent grease from touching the disc
or pad friction material.

Use brake cleaner to remove errant
grease.
3.
Perform this procedure on the other side of
the vehicle.
4.
Reinstall all removed parts in reverse order
of removal.
5.
Tighten all bolts to the torque
specification recommended in the
appropriate vehicle shop manual.
6.
The service procedure is now complete.
