Condition
Important: If the customer did not bring their vehicle in for this concern, DO NOT proceed with this EI.
Some customers may comment on a popping and/or thump type noise heard from the front suspension during
sharp turns and/or while backing out.
GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the above condition. Engineering has a need to
gather information on vehicles PRIOR to repair that may exhibit this condition. As a result, this information will be
used to "root cause" the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix.
Cause
Correction
If you encounter a vehicle with the above concern, perform the following steps and contact the engineer listed below with your findings.
1.
Verify that the source of the noise originates from the strut, spring and the top mount.
2.
Inspect the spring location relative to the spring seat. If the spring is out of position, take a clear picture for evidence prior to making any repairs and send it to
the engineer listed. Proceed to step 3 if the spring is NOT out of position.
3.
Inspect for signs of contact between the spring and the wheel liner. If there are witness marks of contact being made on the spring and wheel liner, take a
clear picture for evidence and send it to the engineer listed.
