Case Number: S2118000003
Release Date: 4/09/2021
Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illumination. Diagnostic
Trouble Codes (DTCs) P051B – Crankcase Pressure Sensor Circuit Performance,
and/or P04DB – Crankcase Ventilation System Disconnected, Set After Powertrain
Control Module (PCM) Replacement
Discussion: You may run into a concern where DTCs P051B and/or P04DB are
setting after replacing the PCM. In these cases, the DTCs were not setting prior to
module replacement.
An issue has been identified where these DTCs may falsely set when a replacement
PCM is programmed using the “Value Transfer” method. If the “Value Transfer”
program routine is initiated to transfer module information from the existing PCM into
the new PCM, and the new PCM software is updated prior to completing the value
transfer first, it may corrupt the Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) system learned
tables leading to these DTCs setting.
If you run into this concern, perform the following steps to clear the DTCs, and allow
the system to relearn the CCV values.
1. Clear all DTCs
2. Start the vehicle, and allow the coolant temperature to reach a minimum of
176°F (80°C).
3. Turn the ignition off for 10 seconds.
4. Turn the ignition to run for 10 seconds.
5. Repeat steps 3, and 4, two more times.
6. Verify DTCs are no longer set active.
