SERVICE INFORMATION BULLETIN APPLICABILITY: 2020-21MY Legacy/Outback 2.4 DIT (Turbo) 2019-21MY Ascent SUBJECT: Scavenge Pump Installation- Service Procedure Change NUMBER: 02-186-21 DATE: 05/18/21 INTRODUCTION: This Service Information Bulletin outlines changes in the service procedure for scavenge pump assembly installation. A two-step torque procedure has been developed to ensure proper pump to cylinder block contact and optimize sealing. SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION: REMINDER: Customer satisfaction and retention starts with performing quality repairs. IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS: • Confirm the mounting surfaces of the scavenge pump and the cylinder block are completely clean. • DO NOT add any type of sealer between the scavenge pump and the cylinder block. • The Service Procedure for the scavenge pump removal remains unchanged: Engine > LUBRICATION (H4DOTC) > Scavenge Pump > REMOVAL STEP 1) Install NEW O-ring (p.n. 806912190). STEP 2) Install the scavenge pump and temporarily tighten the bolts in a star pattern. Initial tightening torque: 5.9 Nm (4.4 ft.-lbs. or 53 inch-lbs.) Confirm the scavenge pump is properly seated to the cylinder block and final torque the bolts in a star pattern. Final tightening torque: 6.4 Nm (4.7 ft.-lbs. or 56 inch-lbs.) Bulletin Number: 02-186-21; Date: 05/18/21 Page 1 of 2 STEP 3) Install the oil jet. Tightening torque: 6.4 Nm (4.7ft-lbs. or 56 inch-lbs.) STEP 4) Reinstall the crank sprocket and related components in reverse order of removal: MECHANICAL (H4DOTC) > Crank Sprocket > INSTALLATION. STEP 5) Reconnect the ground cable terminal to battery sensor and torque to 7.5 Nm (5.5 ft.-lbs. or 66 inch-lbs.) while supporting the sensor with the other hand: STARTING / CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DOTC) > Battery Sensor. The five (5) bolts shown in the illustration above are affected. NOTE: No changes have been made to the Warranty Labor Time Guide for this procedure.
