WMD2 - Teach Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) System Using the PIWIS Tester (Workshop
Campaign)
Information
Carry out this campaign only after a wheel change or if a tire pressure monitoring fault is present
because this procedure will not work if the wheel has not been changed or if the corresponding fault is not
present.
If the campaign is not carried out, do not close the campaign using the recall update procedure,
as it will no longer be displayed as open at a later time (e.g. when the fault is actually present or after the
wheel has been changed) and can no longer be billed.
To prevent warranty processing errors due to an open campaign, the warranty check for this campaign
was deactivated.
A Certified Pre-Owned Warranty can also still be issued in this case if the campaign is not closed.
Revision:
This bulletin replaces bulletin Group 4 62/21 WMD2, dated June 16, 2021.
Model Year:
2021
Important:
CRITICAL WARNING - This campaign includes steps where control unit(s) in the vehicle will be
programmed with the PIWIS Tester. The vehicle voltage must be maintained between 13.5 volts and 14.5
volts during this programming. Failure to maintain this voltage could result in damaged control unit(s).
Damage caused by inadequate voltage during programming is not a warrantable defect. The technician
must verify the actual vehicle voltage in the PIWIS Tester before starting the campaign and also document
the actual voltage on the repair order.
Model Line:
718 Cayman (982) / 718 Boxster (982)
Cayenne (9YA / 9YB)
911 Carrera (992)
Panamera (971)
Taycan (Y1A / Y1B)
Macan (95B)
Concerns:
Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) system
Equipment:
Tire Pressure Monitoring 433 MHz (M-no. 7K3 or 482)
Information:
There is a possibility that the wheel rotation direction will not be detected on the affected
vehicles due to an incorrectly calibrated signal from the wheel electronics for the Tire Pressure
Monitoring (TPM) system.

In this case, the wheel position is not recognized by the control unit for the Tire Pressure Monitoring
system and the message "Fault monitoring tire pressure - Service necessary" is displayed in the
instrument cluster.
This can particularly occur after a wheel change or after selecting wheels manually using the instrument
cluster.
Information
The following fault memory entries may be present in the fault memory of the control unit for the Tire
Pressure Monitoring system in this regard:
•
800406 — Teaching phase, error assigning wheel electronics (direction of rotation not detected)
Macan (95B)
•
C102DF3 — Tire pressure warning, pressure difference on rear axle 718 Cayman (982)/718
Boxster (982)/Cayenne (9YA/9YB)/911 Carrera (992)/Panamera (971)/Taycan
(Y1A/Y1B)
Action required: As an interim solution until new components are available, teach the wheel electronics systems using the
PIWIS Tester.
Information
Please note that different working times were determined for carrying out the campaign on the affected
vehicles.
Every vehicle is therefore assigned exactly one campaign scope.
•
Scope 1: Teaching wheel electronics systems using the PIWIS Tester  718 Cayman (982)/718
Boxster (982)
•
Scope 2: Teaching wheel electronics systems using the PIWIS Tester  911 Carrera (992)
•
Scope 3: Teaching wheel electronics systems using the PIWIS Tester  Taycan (Y1A/Y1B)
•
Scope 4: Teaching wheel electronics systems using the PIWIS Tester  Cayenne
(9YA/9YB)/Panamera (971)/Macan (95B)
Information
Please note that manual tire selection using the instrument cluster can cause the error described to
occur again. Pass this information on to the customer as well.
If the WMD2 campaign has already been carried out and the error occurs again (i.e. if the customer
changes a wheel again), TI-No. 226/20 can be invoiced under new vehicle warranty.
