Condition
Service Parking Brake Message, Red Park Indicator Flashing & or Amber Parking
Brake Wrench Indicator Illuminated. With DTC C056D, C056E or C0616 Could Have
Other ABS DTC's. If replacing the EBCM, high EPB actuator or circuit resistance will
not allow programming to complete and result in an error E6961.
Cause
Resistance in the Electronic Park Brake(EPB) circuit or Park brake actuator.
Correction:
Measure both rear park brake circuit resistance at the EBCM with the EPB actuators plugged in. Should be
0.6 or less on the circuit.
If resistances are above .6 ohm inspect wiring for excessive resistance and repair.
If wiring is ok, disconnect actuator and test resistance at the actuator, if greater than .6 ohms, replace
actuator.
If the actuator is replaced make sure the O ring is seated between the EPB actuator and caliper. Apply
dielectric grease to connector before plugging in actuator.
If you had programming error E6961 after repairing wiring or replacing actuator you may need to power
down the EBCM for over 5 minutes before programming.
Note: This PI may be converted to a Bulletin in the future if new information becomes available.
