SERVICE BULLETIN APPLICABILITY: SUBJECT: 2017-21MY WRX NUMBER: 07-200-21 DATE: Metallic Rattle Sound While Operating Horn 09/13/21 INTRODUCTION: This bulletin announces the design changes to the right front wheel apron. A customer may experience a “metallic rattle” sound when operating the horn. This can be the passenger side horn mount making contact with the wheel apron creating a vibration/sound. The new apron has an added indentation to providing needed clearance for the horn. There has also been a horn stopper removed from the apron to allow additional clearance as well. PRODUCTION CHANGE INFORMATION: • Vehicles produced as of January 2020 will have the added indentation. • Vehicles produced as of August 2021 will have the added indentation and the deleted horn stopper. Bulletin Number: 07-200-21; Date: 09/13/21 Page 1 of 3 DELETED HORN STOPPER SERVICE PROCEDURE / INFORMATION: On vehicles produced prior to these design changes, the rattle/noise can be repaired by applying pressure to the passenger side horn mount. Doing so will insure proper clearance between the horn mount and the wheel apron. This is performed by hand with the passenger front under cover removed. STEP 1) Refer to the applicable Subaru Service Manual: Body & Electrical > EXTERIOR/ INTERIOR TRIM > Front Under Cover. WHEEL APRON HORN W/ MOUNT STEP 2) Slightly reposition the left horn mount towards the front of the vehicle. Use CAUTION not to apply excessive force causing damage to the mount. Function test the horn to in after adjustments to confirm there is no rattle/vibration sound during operation. STEP 3) Reinstall all parts in the reverse order of disassembly.
