Use the following aids in conjunction with the repair manual when removing the fuel tank from 20162022 model year Tacoma vehicles.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Fuel Line Disconnect
It is recommended to avoid disconnecting the fuel lines as instructed in repair manual step 5. The
ideal disconnect location is at the connector directly at the fuel pump assembly.
2. Vent Tube Bracket Bolt
Lowering the fuel tank prior to disconnecting the lines greatly eases access to the connections. To
lower the tank prior to disconnecting lines and hoses, the filler neck mounting bolt must be
removed first to avoid putting excessive tension on the vent hose. This also allows for additional
clearance when lowering the tank.

3. Fuel Tank Cover Removal
While performing step 8b for Fuel Tank Removal, the repair manual states to disengage the four
claws and remove the cover. While attempting this step it was discovered there is insufficient
space to remove the cover unless the fuel tank is slightly lowered approximately 2-3 inches.
Additionally, by lowering the fuel tank first, disconnecting of the filler neck and vent tubes is much
easier.
