Complaint:
Yellow engine diagnosis warning lamp (CEL) lights up and fault code P045500 is current and/or stored in ME-SFI
control unit (N3/34).

Fuel filler cap not closed properly.
Gross leak in the evaporative emission control system.
A different component in the evaporative emissions control system may need to be replaced.
Remedy:
Note: Before carrying out the repair work, check to ensure the fuel filler cap was properly closed in the fuel filler neck.
If the complaint was caused by in improperly closing fuel filler cap, a quick test log must be created and any existing
fault codes erased. Further measures are not necessary. Repair or diagnostic work resulting from an improperly closed fuel filler cap must not be invoiced under warranty.
Information: If the fuel filler cap was not properly closed, any air entering the fuel tank by this route is detected as a
leak. In this case the lighting of the yellow engine diagnosis warning lamp in combination with the fault code P045500
corresponds to the vehicle's monitoring function. It is not an indication of a damaged component or incorrect vehicle
behavior. Please advise the customer that an improperly closed fuel filler cap will trigger the vehicle's monitoring function.

2. Connect diagnostic unit (see AD00.00-S-2000-04E).
Information:
Use XENTRY Diagnostics version 12/2016 with all relevant updated addons (in particular addon 7100) or
XENTRY Diagnostics version 03/2017 with all relevant updated addons (in particular addon 7101) or
a higher XENTRY Diagnostics version.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------4. Read out fault freeze frame data for fault code P045500 from XENTRY Diagnostics and print out or save as a PDF
file.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------5. Work through guided tests for fault code P045500 with XENTRY Diagnostics.
Information: To do this, select the following menu items in XENTRY Diagnostics:
Control units view → N3/34 - Engine electronics 'MED40' for combustion engine 'M274' (ME-SFI) → Tests
Note: Strict compliance with the operation steps in XENTRY Diagnostics is absolutely essential.
Note: Components may only be replaced when a "Possible Cause" is provided. Always carry out the guided test in full
until it indicates the component to be replaced.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------7. Disconnect charger (see AR54.10-S-1127E).

If having performed all test steps above and vehicle is later test driven or returns with the same customer complaint / with fault code P045500 current and/or stored in ME-SFI control unit (N3/34). Then replace the purge valve
with the latest version as identified in EPC as (P/N: A 000 476 06 00).

through the usual warranty channels together with the printout or PDF file of the fault freeze frame data created earlier.
Information: Refer to the return delivery instructions in the VEGA/GALA system. The procedures from the relevant articles in the Extended Warranty Manual Retail (EWMR) or the Warranty Manual Wholesale (WMW) must be observed.
