Technical background The Bentley Home Charging Unit IC-CPD (In Cable – Control & Protection Device) is used to charge the high voltage battery on Bentley Hybrid vehicles. There is a legal requirement for home charging units supplied to Customers to have the Vehicle Charge Cable connected, currently the home charge unit and charging cables are supplied as individual items, this does not meet the required standard certified by Intertek (Certification agency) – IEC-62752, 8.2.1. 8 Requirements for construction and operation 8.2.1 General Connections of an IC-CPD shall be designed in a way that only accessories fulfilling the requirements of 8.2 can be connected. Components of a pluggable IC-CPD shall not be intermateable in any way other than declared by the manufacturer. Notably, pluggable connections at the function box shall not comply with standard products, for example IEC 62196 (all parts) or IEC 60309 (all parts) Vehicle connectors and the connection to their cables shall be non-rewirable by the manufacturer. They shall not be pluggable. Production change Not applicable – this requirement will be added to vehicle specific Pre-Delivery Inspection within Elsa-Pro. Measure Note: If multiple charge cables are supplied within the standard kit bag, the Customer should be consulted and the preferred charge cable selection should be configured. At vehicle handover the “Charger for high voltage battery” must have the “Charging cable for vehicle” and “Charging cable mains socket” connected. Refer to Bentley Home Charging Unit user manual. Securing mains and vehicle charging cables to high voltage charger The following method should be used to connect “Charging cable for vehicle” and “Charging cable mains socket” to “Charger for high voltage battery” Note: The charge cable plugs will only connect into their respective high voltage charger sockets. Lift the lever (1) slightly. Push the connector (2) into the operating unit until the first point of resistance. Lift the lever (1) all the way up. Push the connector (2) all the way into the operating unit. Close the lever (1). Secure lever with retaining screw. Warranty accounting instructions Included as part of the PDI procedure.
