Customer states:
When the steering wheel is turned to full lock and the front strut compresses a rubbing, creaking, or snap sound is
heard in the front wheels.
Technical Background
The front-wheel housing liner protrudes into the path of the bracket on the suspension strut housing where the
coupling rod is attached when the wheels are turned to full lock. The noise disappears when the steering angle is
straightened.
Figure 1 shows the point of contact between the
coupling rod bracket and the wheel housing liner.

The protrusion of the wheel housing liner at issue is
shown in Figure 2.

Evidence of contact can be seen on the wheel housing
liner as chafing in the area of the wheel housing liner
shown in Figure 3.

1. Confirm that the root cause of the noise is as
described in this TSB. Loosen the wheel housing
liner and trim the material to provide adequate
clearance using tin snips or heavy-duty shears. In
Figure 4, the section in red is the section to be
trimmed and removed. Perform this modification
to both the left front and right front sides.

2. Confirm the efficacy of the repair by checking for adequate clearance when the strut is compressed and the
steering wheel is at full lock.
