Introduction
On certain Volvo VN model trucks, the Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS) motor may provide an
additional level of assist not expected by the operator. To meet Volvo stringent quality
standards the replacement of the VDS motor will be required. The removed VDS motor will need
to be shipped back to Volvo Reliability Engineering for evaluation.

Calibration Information
•
Be advised there are three major things that HAVE TO HAPPEN for successful calibration.
Front wheels straight ahead, VDS motor timing marks must be aligned, and the steering
wheel/steering angle sensor must be at 0 degrees. If these three things aren’t correct
the truck will not calibrate successfuly.
Return Shipment Instructions
•
Please pack the removed parts in the replacement part container. Print the yellow label
on page 3 and attach to the top of the container. See shipping destination on page 3.
Repair Procedure
1. Secure Vehicle for service.
2. Follow IMPACT operation ID 6422-03-02-06 for VDS motor replacement.
3. Release vehicle for service.
