Document Information Location: Transmission/Powertrain Topic: Transmission dropping into neutral Condition: Intermittent Diagnostic Trouble Codes: N/A Measure When handling a customer concern of the transmission dropping into neutral when slowing down or stopping the vehicle, it is necessary to ensure the engine is in good health as well as inspecting the air intake system to ensure an air leak is not present. In the first instance an intake path pressure test should be carried out. This test can be found under the "Air Intake Section" within SIS. When looking for air leaks pay particular attention to the components including and after the air flow meters. An air leak after the air flow meters will allow unmetered air into the intake system, potentially resulting in the transmission dropping into neutral. If you are unable to find an air leak and the transmission continues to drop into neutral, please raise a Technical Request attaching the transmission diagnoses checklist found in KA-01067.
