Introduction
Some 2020 – 2021 model year TMMC and TMMK built RAV4 and RAV4 Hybrid vehicles may
exhibit damp carpeting in the front floor area. This may be due a condition in which the inside of
the HVAC drain cooler hose is obstructed with plastic. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin
to address this condition.

36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

Repair Procedure
1. Confirm the condition exists.
Is there condensation accumulating in the HVAC box leaking into the vehicle interior on the
passenger side floorboard?

YES — Continue to step 2.

NO — This bulletin does not apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Remove the HVAC drain cooler hose.
Figure 1.
A. Detach the clamp.
B. Disconnect the HVAC drain cooler hose
from the cooler unit drain hose grommet.

NOTE
If the cooler unit drain hose grommet was
removed from the body, replace it with a
NEW one.

C. Remove the HVAC drain cooler hose
from the HVAC box.

3. Loosely cover the end of the HVAC drain
cooler hose with a plastic bag, leaving room
for air to inflate the bag. Blow compressed
air at no more than 20 psi (140 kPa) through
the drain tube.

CAUTION
ALWAYS wear the appropriate PPE
when working with compressed air
(eye protection and ear protection).
Did non-plastic debris come out of the
HVAC drain cooler hose?

YES — This bulletin does NOT apply.
Reference T-SB-0080-19 HVAC
Evaporator Drain Hose Clogged
Due to Insect Intrusion or
continue diagnosis using the
applicable Repair Manual.

NO — Continue to step 4.
4. Install the NEW HVAC drain cooler hose.
Figure 4.
A. Align the hose notch with the rib as
shown and install the NEW HVAC drain
cooler hose.
NOTICE
Do NOT place the rib on top of the
drain cooler hose. Otherwise, water
may leak into the vehicle interior.

B. Connect the HVAC drain cooler hose to
the cooler unit drain hose grommet.

C. Attach the clamp.
NOTICE
1
When installing the HVAC drain
cooler hose, make sure it is NOT
twisted or crushed. Otherwise, water
may leak into the interior.
NOTE
If the cooler unit drain hose grommet was
removed from the body, replace it with a
NEW one.

5. Confirm the condition no longer exists.
6. If necessary, reference T-SB-0094-21 Odor Remediation After Water Intrusion.
